The original Spartacus series is the most famous television show of all time. I was introduced to this show as a child and instantly fell in love with it. The plot lines were dramatic and compelling, the characters fascinating and wise. The show was full of life force, emotion, and action – everything that I look for in a movie or show to fall in love with. I have been a fan of the show for many years and have been extremely excited to hear that Starz would be reviving the show in a modern setting with a new cast.After watching the first episode of Blood and Sand, I was disappointed. The acting was decent, but I felt that this was not at all accomplished enough to be called a Spartacus film. It is not led by its stellar cast or engaging writing. With all of my hopes built up for this program, it has only left me disappointed and unsatisfied. Perhaps after some time, I will be able to see what true fans see in the program, but I am unsure if it will ever happen. The original Spartacus series was revolutionary for television. It broke boundaries with its storyline of a slave revolt against Rome's ruling Caesar. The series relied heavily on the acting of Andy Whitfield, who portrayed the lead role of Spartacus, who led other slaves in a slave revolt to free themselves from their forced servitude. The show was filled with action, drama, and romance that made it compelling for audiences to watch every episode. Many fans were saddened when Starz canceled the original series because they were unable to see what would have happened in the fifth season.I have been a huge fan of both the original series and spin-off series "Spartacus: Vengeance. I was looking forward to Blood and Sand for months before it was released, but after watching the first episode it did not live up to my expectations. The acting was decent and the costumes beautiful, but I felt that this did not meet the caliber of Spartacus films that we have seen in the past.Although I am a huge fan of Spartacus and everything that has to do with ancient Rome, Blood and Sand just did not capture the same essence as the original series. Everything seemed to be either too good or too bad. The cast either acted really well or really poorly; there were no mediocre actors at all. The writing also seemed very choppy at times and did not make sense. The show did not have the same depth that I am used to with a Spartacus film. It did not draw me in and make me want to watch the next episode. I walked away from the experience feeling unsatisfied and disappointed while still feeling like there was something missing.The pacing of the show was also very strange. In between dramatic scenes, there would be action sequences that did nothing to add to the plot but rather added on to the confusion about what was going on in this world. Also, some scenes would drag on for far too long while others were cut off before they could be completed.
